About Us
Riverside Products has a long history in the recycling industry, 50 years in fact, providing some of the most innovative products in the auto shredding industry. Our history as a leader in the recycling industry is just as important to us as the innovation and passion that drives us today and towards the future.
Riverside Products Division was first created in 1959, at the time we were a division of what is now our sister company, Sivyer Steel. We began making shear blades for a local scrap company using our integrated relationship with the foundry to design a better, longer lasting shear blade.
During the 1960’s, Riverside Products began to make wear parts for the OEM’s of the first automobile shredders. This new market brought about alloy wear parts and the creation of the first Riverside Rotor Assembly for an automobile shredder. Beginning in the 1970’s, Riverside Products, began making OEM rotors and custom engineered rotors that were sold directly to Riverside Products customers.
Through the 1980’s and 1990’s, Riverside Products developed many original ideas for the automobile shredding industry. From the Patented, Replacement End Disc Cap and Star Rotor Assemblies, to Replaceable Tip Rotors and Heavy Duty Hybrid Rotors.Riverside Products also began making Manganese Steel to provide wear parts for the new, larger, high impact shredders.
In October 2000, Riverside Products with its parent company Sivyer Steel, purchased all of the assets of the bankrupt, Newell Industries. This acquisition allowed Riverside Products immediate access to all existing patterns and drawings. With this acquisition, Riverside Products became the sister company of the “New” Newell Riverside.Riverside Products continued its focus on premium rotor assemblies and wear parts and Newell Riverside focused on new shredder design, controls and fabrication.
In 2003, Riverside Products and Newell Riverside were combined into one company called Riverside Engineering, taking all of the strengths of both companies and focusing on the recycling industry.
In 2005, Riverside released the “Revolution” rotor assembly, the first ALL NEW Rotor Design in the industry in over 10 years. This rotor is truly a hybrid rotor, combining the shredding benefits of a spider rotor with the reduced labor of a disc rotor.
On January 1, 2006, with the changing business atmosphere, it made sense for Riverside Engineering to be split into two separate companies and Riverside Products, Inc. and Riverside Engineering were formed.Riverside Products, Inc. is a company focused solely on producing the best rotor assemblies available and the best shredder wear parts available in the market. From 2006 through 2009, Riverside Products, Inc. has worked to develop a world class supply base of domestic and foreign foundries to supply castings. All of our rotor assemblies are assembled in our facility in Moline, IL to our high standard of specifications.
As of 2009, Riverside Products, Inc. will have been awarded 14 patents, produced 1000 rotor assemblies and has over 5000 active wear parts casting numbers. We are testing out new rotor designs and our patent applied for insert hammer which looks to increase hammer life by 50-60%.
This brings us to today. As important as our history is, we are constantly looking forward. At the same time we are constantly working with our customers to redesign and improve our current products to meet the changing shredding environment. The recycling industry is what we are focused on for the future.
